An Apprenticeship that could become a Career
Mitch Thomas became Greenham Business Park’s first Apprentice in 2005, working on the park’s ground maintenance.
During the next 3 years, with the help of Greenham Business Park, Mitch achieved first NVQ Level 2 and then Level 3 in Horticulture. With these qualifications behind him Mitch then went on to achieve a diploma in Surveying Practice in 2010 and a degree in Estate Management from Reading University in 2013. As well as working full time as part of Greenham Common Trust’s Estate Management team Mitch is currently studying to become a Chartered Surveyor.
Mitch said: “This apprenticeship was the start of a fulfilling career for me. The Trust has helped me to achieve some important qualifications and goals. And I enjoy the variety of my work – no day is the same.”
Alex Batts had 3 A levels in Maths, Economics and Psychology when she started an administrative apprenticeship with Greenham Common Trust at its Greenham Business Park centre in September 2011.
Alex said: “I was undecided about University – it’s so expensive. I was looking around for the right niche. The Trust gave me the chance to try different roles and see what suited me.”
4 years later, having experienced a range of different working roles and with the Trust’s full support, Alex has achieved NVQ Level 2 in Business and Administration and is just completing Level 4 of the Association of Accounting Technicians qualification. She currently has the crucial responsibility of administering the income side of the Trust’s rental portfolio. Next year, again with the Trust’s help, Alex will start studying to become a Chartered Accountant.
Now, in 2015, the Trust is once more looking for the right person to undertake a new 1 year apprenticeship with its friendly staff at its Reception at Liberty House, Greenham Business Park.
The Receptionist represents the public face of an organisation. They are often the first person to be seen or the first voice heard over the phone and can be crucial in giving customers a good first impression.
The successful applicant will have achieved a minimum of 2 A Levels and have a friendly and confident personality, a smart appearance, good communication and maths skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
The role, which will initially offer a Business and Administration Level 2 NVQ, could include:
- Meeting and greeting customers and clients
- Maintaining an attractive reception area
- Booking, and arranging hospitality for, meetings, seminars and conferences
- Answering and forwarding phone calls
- Screening phone calls
- Sorting, franking and distributing post
- Arranging couriers
- Billing and reporting
- Purchasing
- Photocopying and collating documents
- Filing
- Website management
- Office administration
- Charitable administration
And who knows where this could progress?
