Greenham Common Trust Announces Award Recipients in Latest Grant Round

Greenham Common Trust’s popular grant round is attracting more and more attention from worthwhile causes, and the Trust has recently announced the latest recipients of more than £146,000.

Applications for reactive grants are considered twice a year. During November, more than 140 applications were studied, from which over 70 were selected to receive much needed funds.

32 projects received the full funding they needed, including West Berkshire Foster Carers Association (WBFCA). They were awarded £6,351 to pay for a new administrator to help with day-to-day tasks, such as writing newsletters and organising awareness events.

A grant for £5,200 was awarded to the Pelican Cancer Foundation. This will go towards a 3D surgical camera, to be used in operating theatres for keyhole surgery, improving recovery times for patients.

Locally more than 500 people in Basingstoke Hospital are surgically treated for bowel cancer every year and the majority should benefit from this innovative equipment.

The foundation still needs to raise approximately £20,000, but has received additional support from the Trust, as it has also given £4,515 in matched funding.

Oxford International Biomedical Centre (OIBC) received £2,320 to go towards a development programme. This is aimed at encouraging young students, on the verge of choosing their GCSEs, to consider science and the potential for a career in a scientific field.

The funds will be used to promote events in schools, and invite experts to talk to students.

Glenn Clarkson, Chairman of Greenham Common Trust’s Distribution Committee, said: “We are very pleased to announce this latest round of grants.

“Without these cash injections, much of the good work that is essential to hundreds of people locally, would not be a realistic option for many of these causes.

“We look forward to the next round of applications, and the chance to help new and established charities.”

The deadline for the next reactive grant round is Friday, 18 March, and applications will be considered in April.
