Newbury Spring Festival gets Welcome Support from Greenham Common Trust

Each year the Newbury Spring Festival gains in popularity, and this spring Greenham Common Trust is helping the growing event with a grant of £44,500.

The festival has been running for 38 years, and although primarily centred around Newbury, there are events planned for Englefield House, Hungerford, and Ramsbury.

Audiences come from North Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and beyond.

This year, it is running from May 7 to May 21 and tickets are on sale now.

The festival is one of the most popular music festivals in south England, and becomes more successful each year. It has grown hugely in size, and the reputation it has developed has drawn international praise. The best of young musical talent appears alongside famous and established names.

This year some of the acts include: Elaine Page, John Etheridge, and the City of Birmingham and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestras. New events for this year’s festival include Rigoletto performed at Combe Manor, and performances of Bach’s Coffee Cantata at St Nicolas Church Hall, in West Mills, Newbury.

Chris Boulton, Chief Executive of Greenham Common Trust said: “This event is well established in Newbury’s calendar, and we are delighted to support it. As well as the grant, we have been able to give an additional £5,000 in matched funding through our Trust Top Up scheme.

“There really is something for everyone during the festival, and the festival also has an impressive education programme. This year, around 1,300 young people will be offered tickets to attend the Young Artists Recitals. Festivals like this offer an opportunity not just for established stars, but for young musical talent to be heard and appreciated.”
