Greenham Common Trust Awards Funding to Central School of Ballet to Rollout their Dance Project in Local Schools

Greenham Common Trust is supporting a leading ballet school which, together with Newbury schools, wishes to foster an appreciation of dance among young students.

Last year, Central School of Ballet, teamed up with Inkpen, Fir Tree and Thatcham Park primary schools, and Newbury College. This year the London-based institution is looking to add two more primary schools and a secondary school to its network.

There are many benefits to learning classical dance: young pupils gain a sense of discipline and become active, getting daily exercise.

GCT has awarded the ballet school a grant of £5,000 towards the project.

Glenn Clarkson, chairman of Greenham Common Trust’s Distribution Committee said : “It is rewarding to see the benefits that learning a classical discipline can bring to young people.

“The strictures of ballet can give a young person a great foundation for any path they chose to take. We are delighted to support this project, and encourage others to celebrate the ballet school’s endeavour and contribute through www.findmeagrant.org.”

A further £5,000 is available through the Trust’s matched funding scheme for public donations.

The prestigious school will perform some of its repertoire at The Corn Exchange as part of the Newbury Spring Festival.

The ballet school hopes the project and performance will give participants, as well as other schools in Newbury, the chance to have an accessible first experience of live ballet and be an inspiration to those wishing to pursue dance.
