Trust gives £100,000 towards new skatepark and play area for Victoria Park

Newbury Town Council and Greenham Common Trust are funding a replacement of the steel skate park in Victoria Park with a state of the art concrete version.
The Trust has agreed to contribute £100,000, which will be split between contributing to the cost of the skatepark and to provide new equipment for the children’s play area in the park.
The current skate park has come to the end of its useful life and would have had to close down completely this winter unless a new skate park could be provided. The new facility will cater for the needs of a wider user group including Skate/BMX and Inline skaters of varying levels of experience. Once complete it is hoped that local and national competitions will be held on the facility.
Following a tender process Maverick Industries has been selected to install the skate park. The Victoria Park Skate Park User Group was actively involved in creating the design criteria and believes that the selected design fully meets their requirement. Maverick Industries has a wealth of experience building skate parks and come with excellent references. They have developed some very innovative designs for other councils and the proposed skate park design for Victoria Park is no exception. Construction work is currently ongoing and the skate park will be fully operational in the summer.
Councillor Ifor Sheldon said: “Newbury Town Council is very grateful for the support of Greenham Common Trust which has enabled us to provide an exciting, innovative and challenging skate park for children of all ages in Newbury. I’m confident that the new skate park will be very popular and will create one of the best facilities in the south of England.”
Greenham Common Trust Chief Executive Stuart Tagg said: “We are very pleased to be able to help provide some major improvements for children of all ages in Victoria Park.”
