Mobile Homme: Internationally acclaimed French Street Theatre Group Unleashed on Newbury Town Centre

An internationally-acclaimed French street theatre company was unleashed on Newbury on Sunday 23 May in a breath-taking performance that climaxed with a human mobile suspended 100 feet above Market Place in the centre of town.

French theatre troupe Mobile Homme’s Transe Express show featured a group of vividly costumed drummers who created a maelstrom of colour and percussion as they career through the audience like mad toys, before being lifted high above the crowd to form a giant children’s mobile.  Combining circus skills, visual arts, music and dance in performances that take place above the crowd, Transe Express has wowed audiences all over the world including Sydney, Las Vegas, Stockholm and Moscow.

Nick Giles, former Director at Newbury Corn Exchange said: ‘The magical spectacle created by Transe Express will delight and mesmerise people of all ages. It’s part of Newbury’s exciting events programme, which brings world-class outdoor arts to the town for residents and visitors to enjoy – and follows the success of the Quidams performance in December, which attracted 3000 people and generated an estimated £39,000 towards the local economy.  The outdoor arts programme – combined with monthly community-focused events, which take place in the town centre year round – enhances Newbury’s thriving arts scene and is further evidence why Newbury is a great place to visit, work and live.’

Newbury’s outdoor events programme is promoted by Newbury Corn Exchange and Newbury Town Centre Partnership, and funded by Greenham Common Trust.
