The Lantern Parade

In December 2010 outdoor events producer Simon Chatterton and Newbury Town Centre Partnership’s events manager Caroline Paus organised a magical winter Lantern Parade through the town.

After a busy day Christmas shopping hundreds of local families joined live musicians as they wound their way down Northbrook Street ahead of a stunning grand finale in the Market Place in a twinkling river of lights.
Free lantern-making workshops were organised in the run-up to the event at school, libraries and Newbury Town Hall.

The event was the culmination of a year of spectacular outdoor events organised by The Corn Exchange, Newbury Town Centre Partnership and celebrated outdoor events producer Simon Chatterton. Each event brought thousands of people into the town to enjoy the spectacles in the hope of igniting some fascination with outdoor arts events for people who don’t usually get the opportunity to see them and generating some income for the local economy. The Events programme has been funded by Greenham Common Trust.
