Five giant white figures silently explored Northbrook Street in December 2009 in search of light watched by a crowd of 3,000 people.
The beautiful and enchanting precession mesmerized young and old who packed Newbury Town Centre to watch the first in Newbury’s Outdoor Events programme.
The dreamy ethereal characters grew three times their size and lit up as they gently journeyed towards their spell-binding musical finale.
"Herbert’s Dream" has been performed in more than 100 towns in France and several times in Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, United Kingdom, and also in Austria, Bielorussia, Greece, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Monaco, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Switzerland.

Results of audience survey from first outdoor arts event – Quidams
On Sunday 13 December, French artists Quidams staged Reve d’Herbert (Herbert’s Dream) – a beautiful and spectacular promenade performance for nearly 3000 people. The show has been staged more than 500 times all over the world.
Headlines from audience survey:
- 87% of respondents sole or main purpose being in Newbury was to attend Quidams event
- 91% said either very likely or likely to attend any future events
- 83% non regular arts attenders
- 68% said event positively impacted on their perceptions of Newbury town centre
