The Greenham Gift

Greenham Gift

Greenham Common Trust has decided not to run the Greenham Gift in 2011 and will instead increase its reactive grant rounds by £86,000.

The Gift, which started in 2006, has been a great opportunity for the public to get involved and vote for worthy local causes to have the opportunity to win up to £50,000.

However, the number of applications and general interest has not been as high as the Trust was anticipating and although there have been some very deserving projects who have received funding, the Gift will not be running in 2011.

The decision has been made following a public consultation in the Newbury Weekly News and on the Trust’s website.

The £86,000, which would have been available to the Greenham Gift winner and runners up, will instead be split into the two reactive grant rounds for 2011/12 starting in September, so even more local organisations will be able to benefit.

Greenham Common Trust chief executive Stuart Tagg said: “The Trust felt the public interest in the Greenham Gift was not great enough, both through applications and the number of votes, to warrant running the event in 2011. There are, however, a number of funding streams which will still be available to local organisations through the Trust. We do value your opinion and if you have an idea to enable us to improve on the Greenham Gift we would welcome your ideas.”

The Greenham Gift is a major grant making initiative made by Greenham Common Trust that provides up to £50,000 for a local project or organisation and £8,000 each to four further projects, all of which are chosen by local residents.

The involvement of the general public in the voting process for the Greenham Gift ensures that a wide cross-section of the public can have a direct influence on the allocation of these major charitable awards.
Although we are not running the Greenham Gift this year we would be very interested in your views about whether it should be resurrected and if so in what form. Please fill in an online form and let us know how you want the Greenham Gift to work or suggest an idea for an alternative interactive grant stream.
