East Garston Amenities (EGA) has been awarded £15,000 to provide a child play area and public recreational facilities on the village's millennium field and The Watermill Theatre, Bagnor, has been granted £23,000 to support its 2003 production of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

As a result of the grant to East Garston Amenities, purposeful leisure activities for the young people of the village, such as external play equipment and cricket nets, can be installed, creating a child friendly environment and a communal meeting place.

Penny Locke of East Garston Amenities says: “East Garston is in great need of public amenities that can be enjoyed by all residents.”

The Watermill Theatre's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream will run for six weeks between 5th February and 22nd March 2003 and is expected to attract a total audience of around 9,000 over this period. Members of the cast and director, Edward Hall, will also participate in workshops for young people and post-performance "talk-backs" aimed at enhancing the Shakespearean experience.

The Watermill Theatre's development manager, Susan Foster, says: “A Midsummer Night's Dream is a popular classic and the financial support from Greenham Common Trust will enable us to reach out to new audiences and bring the work of Shakespeare to the attention of the wider community.”
