Greenham Common Trust presented with Queen's Award for Enterprise by Lord-Lieutenant

The Greenham Common Trust was officially presented with the Queen's Award For Enterprise: Sustainable Development by the Lord-Lieutenant of Royal Berkshire, Philip Wroughton, at a ceremony at New Greenham Park held on Thursday evening. The Trust was granted the Queen's Award earlier this year for its work in transforming the former airbase into New Greenham Park and enabling the restoration of Greenham Common. Over one-hundred individuals attended the event where the Lord-Lieutenant presented Sir Peter Michael, the Chairman of Greenham Common Trust, with the Grant of Appointment and a commemorative crystal bowl. During his speech, the Lord-Lieutenant said that the Queen's Award “represents a tremendous achievement and a resounding reward for the enormous success and capability of the Trust's various initiatives.”

Following the presentation those attending were able to look at exhibits and displays by some of the tenants at New Greenham Park, along with some of the organisations that the Trust has supported, including Greenham Youth & Community Project, Speed-trap.com ltd, Thames Valley Energy and West Berkshire Libraries.

Sir Peter Michael, says: “The Trust is justifiably proud of receiving the Queen's Award for Enterprise: Sustainable Development. We believe that sustainable development is as much about society as it is about the environment. It is about improving the places we live and work in and providing every element of society with the opportunity of contributing to the well being of the wider community.”

Stuart Tagg, Chief Executive of the Greenham Common Trust adds: “Sustainability has been central to the philosophy of the Trust since it was established in 1997. The careful management of the Trust's investment over the last six years is producing a significant and sustainable flow of money for local charities and social projects.”
