Opera For All 2006 - Tickets on Sale

'Die Fledermaus'

Tickets are now on sale for Greenham Common Trust’s Opera For All event for 2006, following the success of the last year’s event when around 1,500 people attended an open-air performance of La Traviata at Newbury Racecourse.

This year’s event will be held on the evening of Saturday 1st July and will feature a costumed performance of Johann Strauss’ ‘Die Fledermaus’ by professional opera company Opera Box. Once again the event will be promoted by Greenham Common Trust in partnership with the Newbury Weekly News and Newbury Racecourse to make professional opera affordable and accessible to the whole community.

Stuart Tagg, chief executive of Greenham Common Trust, said: “The 2005 event was a huge success, enjoyed by the large crowd that attended. It confirmed the demand for such an event and we are certain that ‘Die Fledermaus’ and its many famous tunes will prove to be just as enjoyable.”

Brendan Wheatley of Opera Box says: “Die Fledermaus provides a hilarious vehicle for some of the most captivating music ever written. This is the king of the waltz's most celebrated and popular operetta – intoxicatingly melodious and exuberant. The story involves mistaken identities, flirtations, elegant frivolities and confusion! It is certain to enchant and delight the audience.”

Tickets for Die Fledermaus at Newbury Racecourse are available from the Newbury Corn Exchange, with further information available on the Opera for All page, or by emailing music@greenham-common-trust.co.uk.
