The Distribution Committee of the Greenham Common Trust has announced the names of the organisations that have been successful in their application for the Trust's 2004 Standard Awards.

At its recent meeting all the applications were considered and discussed, with a decision taken on those that the Distribution Committee felt most merited an award. The total sum of the Standard Awards being made to charities and community projects in Hampshire and West Berkshire this year is £80,000, including £10,000 that was allocated by the Trust's Youth Distribution Committee (YDC).

The YDC made its recommendations at a meeting in January and considered all applications made to the Trust for up to £2,000.

Glenn Clarkson, Chairman of the Greenham Common Trust's Distribution Committee, says: “The Trust's careful management of its investment in New Greenham Park has resulted in an increase in the level of the standard awards for 2004 and we are pleased that we have been able to fund a number of applications in full. We are very grateful to the members of the Youth Distribution Committee, and their schools, for the time they gave and the mature approach they took in reaching their decisions.”

Sarah Edmonds, who has represented Kennet School on the Youth Distribution Committee in 2003 and 2004, says: “It's good that younger people can have the opportunity of helping support projects and charities that will benefit our community. Being on the committee is great fun but the responsibility of deciding where the money is distributed is much harder than you first imagine.”

Chief Executive of Greenham Common Trust, Stuart Tagg says: “The distribution of our annual awards is a crucial part of our activities. The ongoing success of our investment in the business park will enable further, significant charitable contributions in years to come.”

Debra Wetherell of Busy Bees Playgroup in Kingsclere, which was awarded £500 to allow it to create a library corner for its children, says: “We are enormously grateful to the Greenham Common Trust for this donation. This area will greatly support us when working towards the early years goals and will benefit the whole age group range.”

The Trust's Distribution Committee meets again on 24th February to discuss applications for the 2004 major awards, which will total £50,000.
