Thousands come to watch Newbury's latest spectacular free outdoor event

PAGE BLANCHE BRINGS OUT THE CROWDS FOR NEWBURY’S LATEST EXTRAORDINARY OUTDOOR SPECTACULAR

Newbury’s Market Place was alive with colour on Saturday evening as over 2500 people flocked to the centre of town to witness the latest fantastic event in Newbury’s exciting outdoor programme, Page Blanche.

Exceptional French company Luc Amoros erected a huge scaffold tower in the Market Place on Friday afternoon, which served to create a real buzz across the town as many passers by stopped, intrigued by the 10m x 10m tower which loomed large over the cobbled streets. As the glorious October sunshine finally set on Saturday evening, the Town Hall clock ticked to 7.45pm and a wave of sound and colour engulfed the expectant crowd.

Accompanied by an exhilarating fusion of live music and voices, the team of performers from Compagnie Luc Amoros launched into what was to become a memorable performance as they created, destroyed and recreated unique works of art using over 300 litres of paint and 360 square metres of plastic film with dazzling speed and talent. The result was an utterly compelling, dark yet delightful fusion of art, live music and performance which left the Newbury audience once again astonished and elated by the event they had witnessed.

Katy Griffiths, Director of the Corn Exchange who manage Newbury’s outdoor arts programme said: “We feel incredibly privileged to have hosted such a spectacular show. We were really blown away by the fantastic attendance once again. It is brilliant to see so many of Newbury’s residents getting involved and attending cultural events like this. We are also enormously grateful to Greenham Common Trust for funding the event and hope to continue to surprise and amaze Berkshire’s residents with more events like this in the future.”

Outdoor Arts Producer Simon Chatterton, who worked with the Corn Exchange to bring Page Blanche to town said: “I was delighted with the audience response to Page Blanche. It was a fantastic show and the inventiveness, skill and energy of the artists kept everyone breathless with anticipation as the images were created. We are now all really looking forward to the next event and hope that there will be many more spectacular shows to come.”

Newbury doesn’t have long to wait for the next event either with Halloween Hullabaloo coming up on Sunday 30 October, and a Lantern Procession before Christmas too. For more information about Newbury’s forthcoming outdoor events, funded by Greenham Common Trust see www.cornexchangenew.com.
