Set in Melbourne, Australia, in the 50's, the play charted the disintegration in the relationship between two sugar cane cutters and their summer partners. Contrasting the lifestyles of city and outback, 'Summer of the 17th Doll' set new standards for Australian theatre when it was first staged.
