'BURNT ON' Anna Cady
Anna Cady's large pinhole photographs were strangely ambiguous for whilst they portrayed an India which you may have barely recognised, at the same time they were so real you felt you could be standing right there. Also on show were surreal videos of Muthu, a billboard painter working in a back street in Bangalore, whom Anna commissioned to copy one of her own pinhole photographs of the Brooks Centre, Winchester.
Anna also offered a Photography and Creative Writing Workshop. Carrying out artistic experiments, participants were taught to see afresh the places they thought they knew. Half day and full day workshops incorporated the following: making a pinhole camera or using one already constructed; free writing about the idea of 'place'; creative writing about a place that was to be photographed; taking a photo and developing it; writing about what the camera saw. |
