'IN COMMON'
Studio 8 Artists

The Studio 8 artists invited the public to come and discover what they have in common at their fifth annual show at New Greenham Arts, featuring ceramics, paintings, digital work and other media.

The starting point for this exhibition was essentially a series of questions they each asked themselves: How can such very different artists put together an annual exhibition - and why should they want to? What's the work really saying? What makes an impact? Is there a stimulating mix of continuity and pioneering experimental work? Working on this unique site, under one roof, and sharing facilities, do the insights and approaches of our fellow artists influence our very different personalities and methods?

An annual show allows the artists and the public to follow individual careers and to recognise how styles change and mature; a learning process which they feel is vital to their individual creative development. It also provides an opportunity for the artists to 'see' their work in a context beyond the studio and to receive feedback from colleagues and from the public - allowing the kind of insight which is not necessarily possible in the 'work in progress' atmosphere of the studio.
