'WAR STARS' Bruno Martelli and Ruth Gibson as part of the Capture Installation Portfolio.
The show Capture was a unique collection of single screen works, video installations and new media works with content that comes from dance practice. Two pieces were shown in Newbury: Men in the Wall could be seen in the Balcony Bar at the Corn Exchange, and War Stars was on view in the Gallery at New Greenham Arts.
War Stars 2001 was a series of short interrelated films presented as a twin screen installation. The work was abstract and concerned primarily with the relationship between the figure and the landscape; it was inspired by the physical and cultural landscapes of Iceland. The films exposed rhythms of nature explored by the editing process that lent a mythic quality to the progression through lava, water, sulphur, rock and ice. Each film had an original score compositionally linked to combine and create stereo soundscapes. |
