April's Blue Hours presented French siren Caroline Nin, accompanied by her musical collaborator and pianist, bringing life to the songs of Dietrich, Piaf and Sondheim. Caroline's singing career was born after listening to Ella Fitzgerald's 1954 live Berlin album. Her influences are opera singer Maria Callas, Louis Armstrong's improvised 'scat' singing style, Sarah Vaughan and Billie Holiday. Her current favourite records at the time of her 'Blue Hours' performance included albums from Kojak, Susheela Raman, Nitin Sawhney, Claudine Longet and Zero 7. |
