'Day Trips to Hell' was a response to the relics of the Holocaust - Belsen, Sachsenhausen, Dachau and Auschwitz. Giles explains “ 'Day Trips to Hell' seeks to examine and question the nature of evil within men's hearts and the objects complicit in that evil...Is a brick wall only ever just a brick wall or does the nature of it change when it is part of the structure of the Crematorium No 1 at Auschwitz-Berkenau?” he asks.

'Day Trips to Hell' also wondered whether the promise 'Never Again' was kept. “It's a well used phrase but have we really held true to our grand statements, perhaps Vietnam, Bosnia, Rwanda, and now Camp X-Ray tell a different truth?”
