VIBRATIONS THEATRE
Vibrations was a theatre performance that brought energy, colour and life to the stage. It set the context of a traditional Afrikan village where no one person is just a spectator. Muzik was at its heart, reflecting how it is inseparable from daily life in Afrika. It took the audience on an hour-long journey through the Afrikan village, introducing instruments like the mbira and its sister instrument, the kalimba, the marimba, or large wooden xylophones, different types of drum - perhaps the most important of all Afrikan instruments, the hoshos or shakers, and the chipendani or mouth bow.
Instruments were accompanied by rhythm, movement and song, and together with traditional costume, masks and other Afrikan artefacts, a complete picture was created of the great complex of art forms that show the cycle of life. Always striving to demonstrate how muzik is participatory and inclusive, the show invited the audience to join in, and engage with tradition and heritage in a fun and educational way. An event for the whole family.
"..an enlightened and educational attempt to expand horizons through the most basic elements of music and dance, providing and sharing that most universal panacea - rhythm." Penny Brookman, Newbury Weekly News |
