'BAD QUALITY' Rosemary Shirley, Lee Maezler, Anthony Carr, Chris Wiles, Anna Cady, Phil Toy, Martyn Last and Theodore Tagholm
This exhibition was the triumph of idea and image over the connoisseurship of the fine art print. It was about the freedom to experiment without high cost materials and framing. It was about focusing on the story being told, not the medium. It was about nostalgia and memories born out of the use of low technology. The Bad Quality artists in this group show used fax and photocopies, CCTV, photos melted with chemicals, old computers, dot matrix printers, petri dish paper, Super 8 films and pinhole cameras. The effects could be pixellation, graininess, and transmission interference; changing the interpretation we may have had of the original image or artwork. Organised by sates.org. |
