'IN PRESENTING THE ABSENT' Video installation by Catherine Rose
Winchester School of Art graduate Catherine Rose questioned what is real and what is imagined, by exploring the inner world of the self through the exterior of the body. She used video to pick out the physical clues we give away about ourselves and also to explore the deeper, hidden individual.
"I believe that art belongs primarily in the community and therefore my aim is to make art that can be accessible to all. I like working in video because it is a medium that most people can relate to, thanks to the accessibility of television and cinema. Understanding the concept, the meaning behind my creation of the work is not important. I want the work to stand on its own, independent of me and available to everyone. If, in the process of viewing the work a feeling, a thought or a memory is awakened then I will have achieved my objective." |
