'ARTS IN REGENERATION' Paintings by Frank Creber
Creber co-founded the London based Bromley By Bow centre 18 years ago in a derelict church. He and other artists used the space, paying rent in kind for workshops. Today the centre employs 100 people, has a turnover of 1.8 million and includes a health centre and a 2-acre park. Creber's latest project, Signs of Life, pays young people to create art, the proceeds from the sale of which feeds back into the Bromley By Bow project. He explains: "money for urban regeneration usually skates across the surface. The centre and its work is rooted in the community. It's about emphasising the positive instead of the feelings of failure the grotty city landscape emphasises." This is especially reflected in Frank's paintings, which have a positive outlook, often on everyday urban scenes. |
