'DIGITAL DECISIONS II' - digital art by Cherry Conway-Hughes and Julie Hoyle.
Cherry's soft faint colours evoke a dreamlike state where the work pops in and out of focus, hinting at pictures that avoid instant recognition. She explains: "I'm interested in the elusive nature of memory and our instinct to find something we recognise in the things we see". Her work is like trying to find pictures in a cloudy sky, illusory and romantically indefinite.
Julie Hoyle uses bold colour, patterns and photographs or scanned objects in her print based work. A falling cat or the striking profile of a head vie with the rich marks of an etching or a painting. In this mixture of the real and manufactured one demands as much space and attention as the other, and layered together make vivid digital images. Julie is exploring the blurring of borders between the natural and technological, reflected in the way she combines and layers traditional printmaking with new technology. |
