'NEPTUNE'S NOTEBOOK' - four artists who share a passion for the sea.
Charlie Goodes-Wilson's bold and quirky photos convey the energy but underlying tranquillity of the water. Her large-scale photograms were made by placing beach material directly onto photographic paper, exposing it to light and then developing it.
Julia Kepinska will drive for hours to see the sea. The vastness of it is shown by her thoughtful, intelligent and experimental work, making us aware of our physical and self-imposed limits.
Marama Carmichael is a diving instructor who uses black and white photography to emphasis form and texture. Marama's macro prints focus on the raw textures and patterns that characterise the beach, capturing the naked beauty of the natural world.
Jemima Hawkins' video/sculpture installations combine physical and electronic space, emphasising the paradox between reality and illusion, instinct and technology.
