The Newbury YoungStars performed ‘RETURN TO THE FORBIDDEN PLANET’ by Bob Carlton, part funded by Greenham Common Trust as a grant aid award for 2001 (see the Grant Awards page in the Trust's website). The show has a cult following.

The story is based on Shakespeare's 'Tempest' and the language used was 'Shakespearian', but very tongue-in-cheek. Captain Tempest crashes on the planet D'Illyria, where we meet the evil Prospero and his beautiful daughter Miranda. The show revolved around the musical numbers. For instance during the asteroid storm they sang 'Great Balls of Fire'; when Miranda was thwarted in love she sang 'Why must I be a teenager in love? Other songs included 'The Shoop Shoop song', 'Good Vibrations', 'Young Girl', 'Shake Rattle & Roll' and many, many more.
