Newbury Fringe Festival received £2,500 towards the cost of safely staging this weekend of public events in May 2007. The community arts festival is aimed at showcasing local artists, craftspeople, bands, musicians, performers and dancers.
The Kennet Centre hosted the Festival's dance programme. This year's event saw a whole host of different styles, ranging from traditional English dance, classical Indian dance, Egyptian style belly dance, through contemporary styles, including a funky dance exercise programme combining elements from Hip Hop, Funk, Latin, Salsa and Disco.
Elsewhere in Newbury the Bell Ringers from St Nicolas Church invited people to view the old English art of campanology from a ring side seat, children were able to contribute to a giant mural of local life in the Town Hall and Chaucer's Canterbury Tales were given a twenty-first century makeover as Canadian rap artist Baba Brinkman performed his surprise Edinburgh Fringe Festival hit in Newbury Library, among many other exciting events.
