help in kind
As well as all the funding provided since 1997 for local projects and organisations in the form of grant awards and large scale donations for one-off community projects, the Trust also helps the local community in a variety of other ways.
The value of any assistance that the Trust gives in the form of 'help in kind' can be used as matched funding for applications for funding to organisations that require matched funding.
Here are some of the ways 'help in kind' has been of use.
help with parish plans
Since 2004 Greenham Common Trust has supported a number of parish plans. Working on single projects or elements of a plan's production that have set timescales is, from the Trust's perspective, the most efficient way of supporting parish planning groups.
| help with advertising the parish planning process
Working closely with Community Action West Berkshire, The Trust is assisting in making the help available for parish planning groups more widely known.
A bi-annual Parish Planning newsletter is being produced by CAWB, with information about what help is available, and highlighting how West Berkshire parishes are proceeding with their plans. The newsletters are designed by the Trust's Graphic Designer, Teresa Newson, along with a flyer for handing out to parish planners at the frequent 'roadshows' the Community Council runs across Berkshire. The Trust has also helped with producing other circulars and newsletters for CAWB.

help with questionnaires
The Trust purchased a Village Appraisal software package from Gloucester University that assists with the design of questionnaires for local inhabitants and has made the software available to parishes throughout West Berkshire. The Trust provides assistance with data input for all parishes using this software.
Starting in June 2004 the Trust's Melissa Elliott, Shirley Monger, Fran Smith and Jane Woodfield have helped Aldermaston, Bradfield, Chaddleworth, Compton, Great Shefford, Greenham, Hampstead Norreys, Kintbury, Leckhampstead, Shaw cum Donnington, Stanford Dingley, Sulhamstead, Tidmarsh and Sulham, Ufton Nervet, Welford and Wickham, and Woolhampton Parish Councils with the design, production and analysis of their parish plan questionnaires. More parishes are applying for help with questionnaires in 2007. |
| help with designing Parish Plans
Since 2004 Teresa Newson has been designing and preparing Parish Plans for printing.
Working closely with parish representatives, Teresa has designed parish plans for Brightwalton (2004), Leckhampstead (2005), Yattendon (2005), Hungerford (2005), Cold Ash (2006), Sulhamstead and Ufton Nervet ((2006), Great Shefford (2007) and Hampstead Norreys (2008), a newsletter for Greenham (2004), a Town Design Statement for Newbury (2005) and a Village Design Statement for Brimpton (2007).
West Berkshire continues with its impressive progress towards completing parish plans for the whole district, and has recently been awarded Beacon Status for its efforts. North Hampshire parishes have also made contact with the Trust to request help. |

help with websites
Since 2003 Greenham Common Trust has been working closely with public and voluntary sector organisations across West Berkshire to advertise the services they provide on the internet. As well as help with designing and setting up new websites, the Trust can also provide free hosting facilities to local voluntary and community organisations. Contact us for more details.
| West Berkshire Citizens Advice Bureau
In Summer of 2003 Teresa Newson started work on a website for the local branch of the CAB. The National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux has its own website which includes a UK-wide directory of local CAB branches, and general advice and information can also be found on the National CAB's Adviceguide website. Most local branches of the CAB also have independent websites. Teresa designed the West Berkshire CAB website to complement the national parent organisation's site.
With information about the help and guidance available from the CAB in West Berkshire, it is hoped that the new website, which went live in December 2003, will provide wider access to much needed help for local people. Visit the site at www.westberkscab.org.uk

West Berkshire Partnership
The WBP is the Local Strategic Partnership of all the key organisations in the public, the voluntary and private sectors in West Berkshire. The purpose of the partnership is to bring together, at a strategic level, the ideas, expertise and resources to resolve local problems such as transport, housing and other issues that affect people's quality of life. Greenham Common Trust is a member of the partnership.
The Partnership has produced a Community Plan for West Berkshire covering all these aspects of local life, and setting out Action plans to tackle key issues. The Community Plan has been incorporated into a vast new website for the Partnership, designed by Teresa Newson, which highlights the partnership's achievements since its founding in 2001 and includes the Action Plans from the various Action Groups who deal with each issue identified in the Community Plan. Visit the site at www.westberkshire.org.uk |
| Pathways to Employment
P2E is one of the Action Groups of the West Berkshire Partnership. It's aim is to help both people who face barriers to work, such as age or mental or physical disability, and employers who want to be able to source staff from the widest possible pool of skilled or suitable people.
A new website was needed to help employers find staff and deal with staffing issues such as employment law and workforce development, and also to help people wanting to work to find all the advice, support and training they need to find a job. Teresa Newson started work on the site in the Summer of 2004, meeting P2E partner organisations and local businesses to identify key issues and design elements that optimise accessibility and user-friendliness for both employers and potential employees. The site went live in the very early stages of design and is being developed online. Visit the site at www.p2e.org.uk

The Slater Centre
Funded by Greenham Common Trust, the Slater Centre is a new purpose built facility on New Greenham Park dedicated to the use of community and voluntary organisations. The Community Furniture Project, Link Up, West Berkshire Mencap, Connexions Berkshire, The Alzheimers Disease Society and Home Start are just some of the organisations regularly using the building.
In order to advertise the availability of office and meeting room space for local charities the Trust was asked to produce a website for the Slater Centre. Teresa Newson designed and published the site in 2005. Visit www.slatercentre.org |
| AFC Newbury Boys
More recently Teresa has designed a website for AFC Newbury Boys, who run teams for keen footballers from the age of under 7 up to under 18. The site is designed to be used by the many volunteer members of the club who manage the individual teams, as well as would be players or their parents.
Visit the site and see how well AFC Newbury Boys have done in their most recent season at www.newburyfootball.com

help with schools
 |
Greenham Common Trust provides support for the Education Business Partnership West Berkshire, an active and successful charity employing approximately 10 staff, that works closely with schools, ensuring that students experience elements of the National Curriculum in real business situations. Staff from the Trust have given presentations to schools around the district, encouraged and facilitated school visits to Greenham Common, New Greenham Park and Handpost Gully, and have assisted with projects that link schools to businesses.
