Hungerford Rugby Club grounds improvement to provide access for everybody including disabled, infirm, old and young

The Trust contributed £4,000 towards the improvements. Jeremy Smeddle, Chairman of Hungerford Rugby Club, reported on building progress in July 2007: “This week was a momentous week for us as we finally started building our new clubhouse at the Triangle Field. The official ceremony to turn the first sod was back in January. Austin Brickwork, local builders, will build the walls at a deeply discounted price, Lewis Electrical of Great Shefford are sponsoring the club to the tune of the electrical work, and Broadmead Estates' sponsorship will cover groundwork and landscaping. We are still looking for someone to help with the plumbing. The main contractor is Dashwood Construction who are also providing their services at a knock down price. In addition an army of club members are providing their skills and services for free.

Pulling together such a diverse group of suppliers, contractors and volunteers is very complicated and will prolong the build. However our project managers Martin Digweed and Andrew Sparkes, have got the project off to a flying start, and have probably saved the club over forty thousand pounds through the skilful way they have brought this consortium together.

It is hoped that the project will be fully complete within a year, although it is hoped that we will have a secure shell (walls, roof, doors and windows) before Christmas. We believe that this facility will be a major bonus to the local community, especially the users of the Triangle Field. As for the Rugby Club, we hope that it will be a catalyst for growth, attracting new members, providing a base for our new youth section and generating funds to support the coaching and playing of rugby.”
