£7,000 was awarded to the Newbury and District Old Peoples Association for essential works to update the Fairclose Day Centre to meet Health and Safety regulations.
The Fairclose Centre provides a unique social focus for some 400 members who find companionship and care which they need and cannot find elsewhere. The Centre produces up to 200 hot meals per day to elderly people who would not otherwise receive them, and also offers social and recreation activities such as workshops and bingo as well as low cost hairdressing, a foot clinic and access to a welfare officer for help and advice.
The funds were spent on refurbishing toilet facilities, roofing, flooring, windows and kitchen surfaces.
