cycling

Cycling for leisure or to and from work is green, cheap and healthy. As part of the Trust's commitment to green transport initiatives it has been active in improving the cycle routes across Greenham Common and those linking it with Newbury and Thatcham.

The existing tracks are passable but in partnership with West Berkshire Council the Trust is working to resurface the Newbury link to provide a level surface suitable for any bicycle type. There is a direct route across the Common to Newbury from New Greenham Park, which passes in front of the former cruise missile silos at the GAMA site and then out on to the road network, and associated cycle ways at the junction of Greenham Road / Pinchington Lane / Burys Bank Road. It takes between 10 and 20 minutes to get to Newbury.

Cycle routes across the Common

Even if you only manage to cycle to work on one day per week that is a 20% reduction in traffic, congestion and emission of greenhouse gases.

You can make a difference.
