New Greenham Arts has been instrumental in promoting a number of projects designed to allow a creative interplay between different disciplines. Here are some of those projects.

DANCE MOVEMENT

In Autumn 2000 New Greenham Arts and the Corn Exchange in Newbury held a mixed exhibition of 'work in progress' by a number of artists who worked alongside dancers from 'DANCE MOVEMENT' during their rehearsals at New Greenam Arts. This was a result of a collaboration between New Greenham Arts and the Corn Exchange as part of their Millennium project 'UK Rocks', which showed work by choreographers from each of the four countries in Great Britain.

DANCE MOVEMENT II

A second exhibition in the project was on view in Spring 2001 again both at New Greenham Arts and the Corn Exchange. The exhibition was of more finished work developed from the original interface between dancers and artists.

"Scintillating, convoluted movements and fleeting images from explosions of sound are recorded in unique ways by eight local and regional artists in this collaboration between dancers, painters and printmakers.....works that retain the freshness and the fascination of the original stimulus."

LEIKIN LOPPU

In April 2001 a collaboration took place between silent comedy company Leikin Loppu and a group of visual artists. The workshop not only gave artists a chance to investigate the portrayal of movement, but also allowed Leikin Loppu to develop ideas to feed into their next performance, 'Today's Special', premiered on Tuesday 16th October at the Corn Exchange in Newbury. An exhibition of visual work complemented the event.

Leikin Loppu

"Leikin Loppu make people laugh and cry with their unique combination of comedy, dance, mime and slap-stick. With great attention to detail, exaggerated movement and funny facial expressions they create compelling and comic worlds with clear stories and human characters. The work is expressive and exciting, innovative and imaginative. They focus on the absurdities of human nature through movement and comedy." To find out more visit www.leikinloppu.co.uk

'EL NOS OTROS'

Newbury Contemporary Dance commissioned American artist Michael J Stewart to direct a 30 minute dance named 'El Nos Otros' as part of their production at the Corn Exchange in September 2001. Rehearsals took place at New Greenham Arts in collaboration with an ensemble of drummers and percussionists including Graeme Goodwin of Rhythmworks.
