£1,000 was given by the Trust towards the costs of setting up a heritage exhibition centre in the 14th century building formerly known as St Thomas' Chapel, and now known as the Old Bluecoat School.
Charitable status is being sought for a Trust whose role will be to raise funds for the insuring, maintenance and running of the building, and there are plans to establish, with the help of Thatcham Historical Society, a Heritage Centre to display items of historical interest.
Thatcham Town Council will look after the building while the Trust is established to take over the project. To help with fund raising, the centre will also be used for auctions, 'exhibit and buy' art exhibitions and other functions. During Thatcham Festival in October 2004 an exhibtion will be mounted, building work permitting.
